The 5th ELSI Congress, June 15-17, 2020

ELSIcon 2020: 30 Years of the Genome: Integrating and Applying ELSI Research

ELSIcon2020 • 30 Years of the Genome: Integrating and Applying ELSI Research

June 15th - 17th, 2020

Since its inception, research on the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of genetics research and its translation aims to anticipate and illuminate emerging issues relevant to policy, practice, and fundamental questions of what it means to be human. AI, gene editing, and precision medicine are only the latest of the pressing issues that raise complex questions about utility, privacy, intellectual property, commercialization, and identity requiring ELSI research. The 5th ELSI Congress invites researchers, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, journalists, community members, and others to engage in a transdisciplinary dialogue on the integration and application of ELSI research.

Keynote and plenary session topics include:

  • Integrating ELSI and Genomics: Past, Present, and Future
  • CRISPR and Human Identity: Governing Germline Gene Editing
  • Ethical Frameworks for Research Collaboration with Indigenous Communities
  • Polygenic Risk Scores and Behavioral Traits: Interrogating the Science and Ethics

Over 200 Panel, Paper, Flash and Poster presentation topics include:

  • AI and Machine Learning • Biobanking • Clinical Genetics and Translation • Consent • Commercialization and Intellectual Property • Direct-to-Consumer Genetics • Economics and Health Policy • Education • Gene Editing and Gene Therapy • Global Health • Health Disparities • Law and Regulations • Methodology and Study Design • Non-human Genetics • Polygenic Risk Scores • Population Genetics • Precision Medicine • Psychosocial and Identity • Public Health and Environment • Return of Results and Incidental Findings
