Venture Capital, Private Equity, and the Future of Medical Professionalism
This project will explore the implications for the future of medical professionalism of the extraordinary amount of capital investment from venture capital and private equity ("VC/PE") now going into health care. The literature analyzing VC/PE is extensive: how they invest, where they invest, and when they cash out. However, analysts examining the implications focus mostly on the dynamics of investor companies. This project will focus on the implications on health care professionals and medical professionalism of VC/PE entry. Will the pace and intensity of VC/PE-financed companies render professional responsibilities irrelevant or obsolete?
